STEP 1:
Have your subject sit or stand in plenty of light, either indoor or outdoors. Use a flash if needed. For younger ones try to have them focus on a certain point so that their face remains straight and not tilted. (for little tots I notice it's easier if you have them focus on an interesting picture/cartoon/etc)
You can choose either right or left profile it does not matter, however either way you choose the silhouette will be facing right unless otherwise specified.
STEP 2:
Place yourself on either side of your subject (about 4 feet away) and on the same eye level, neither below or above them.
STEP 3:
Be sure to include head and neck in photo. The subject should have a relaxed natural expression with a closed mouth, however sometimes if the mouth is open slightly it still works.
(we cannot change an expression, whatever the photo looks like is what goes on the canvas).
Note: If you are ordering/photographing multiple subjects, please take those photos individually and label them with names or "number 1, number 2" etc.
(If you have many profiles and if you aren't sure which photo might be best, feel free to send more than one for our expert opinion!)
CORRECT: Relaxed face, neck/shoulders, all of hair, plenty of light.
WRONG: you need to be level with your subject to get a good profile shot!
WRONG: What you DON'T see in the photo...you WON'T see on the canvas silhouette.
